NYC Nordic Ski is a board for people in New York City who want to get out to the snow and would rather not go alone or by themselves in a rental car.

How it works

Driving? Post a trip: where you're going, when and where the car leaves, when it heads home, how many spare seats you have, and what it costs. Trips are visible only to approved members, so people's plans stay private; anyone you share a link with is asked to log in, and to apply if they aren't a member yet.

Skiing close to home? Post a local outing instead: a park or trail you can reach by train or bus, with an optional headcount cap. Local outings are always free, and you can say which train gets people there.

Membership is by application. Sign in with Google, tell us a little about yourself, and an organizer approves new members by hand. Until then you can't see any trips. That keeps everyone's plans private and the community friendly.

Want a seat? Once you're approved, join from the trip's page. If the car is full you can join the waitlist, and you'll move up automatically when a seat opens. Changed your plans? Leave the trip so someone else can take your seat.

Money

The site never handles money. The driver says what the trip costs — usually the rental plus gas and tolls, split evenly among everyone in the car, driver included — and riders settle up directly (Venmo, cash, whatever the driver prefers). A trip page always shows the per-person amount.

Ground rules

• Trips are informal arrangements between the people on them. NYC Nordic Ski doesn't operate, insure, or vet any trip, driver, or rider, and isn't responsible for what happens on one.
• Drivers should hold a valid license and confirm their rental or personal insurance covers passengers.
• Meet in a public place, tell a friend where you're going, and trust your gut. It's fine to say no to a trip or a rider.
• Leave a trip as early as you can if your plans change. Cancelling last-minute leaves a driver with an empty seat and a bigger share of the bill.
• Be kind. Organizers and moderators can remove riders and delete comments.
